The state of South Dakota charges $15 to process a death certificate application and provide your first copy. Any additional copy will cost $15. The standard processing time of a death certificate in South Dakota is 2-5 weeks. In-person applications have the option of paying the fee in cash or by credit/debit card. Mail-in applications must be paid by check or money order addressed to “VITAL RECORDS”.
