A birth certificate number is an 11-digit identification number that is included on all U.S. birth certificates. It is written in XXX-XX-XXXXXX format, and each birth certificate number is unique and is made up of the:

  • 3-digit area code number
  • 2-digit year of registration (usually the year of birth)
  • 6-digit serial registration number (assigned sequentially)

You can generally find your birth certificate number in the top right-hand corner of your birth certificate copy.
