What is VRO+ Identity Protection?

VRO+ Identity Protection was built to help protect you from fraud, stolen data, and misuse of personal or financial information, like credit cards, bank accounts, or Social Security numbers.

We monitor places online where your details could show up, even the dark web, and let you know if anything looks suspicious. If something happens, our team is ready to guide you through restoring your information safely.

Identity theft is one of the fastest-growing crimes in the United States, affecting millions of people each year. VRO+ Identity Protection gives you proactive monitoring and expert support so you can catch threats early and minimize potential damage to your finances and credit.

How do I activate my VRO+ Identity Protection?

To activate your VRO+ Identity Protection:

  1. Select the VRO+ free trial at checkout when ordering any vital record through VRO.
  2. Complete your vital record application. Once finished, a VRO+ Membership tab will appear in the left sidebar menu of your account.
  3. Click “Access Identity Protection.”
  4. Submit your date of birth and Social Security number when prompted.
  5. Follow the on-screen steps provided by Experian to complete setup and start using your Identity Protection benefits.

Once activated, your VRO+ Identity Protection will begin monitoring and safeguarding your personal information immediately. The initial setup typically takes less than 5 minutes.

Does VRO+ prevent identity theft or just alert me?

VRO+ monitors, alerts, and supports recovery. While no service can prevent all identity theft, VRO+ helps you detect risks early and recover quickly if issues occur.

Here’s how VRO+ protects you at each stage:

  • Prevention — daily privacy scans identify where your personal information is exposed online, so you can take action before it’s misused
  • Detection — continuous credit monitoring and dark web surveillance alert you to suspicious activity as it happens
  • Recovery — if identity theft occurs, dedicated recovery specialists guide you through disputing fraudulent accounts, filing reports, and restoring your identity, backed by up to $1 million in insurance coverage

How does VRO+ Credit Monitoring work?

VRO+ Credit Monitoring tracks your Experian credit report and alerts you to significant changes, such as new accounts opened in your name, hard credit inquiries, changes to your credit limits, or new public records. Identifying potential fraud early helps you protect your credit, maintain your financial reputation, and stay in control of your financial information.

You’ll receive alerts via email and through your VRO+ dashboard whenever a noteworthy change is detected. Each alert includes a summary of the change and recommended next steps if the activity wasn’t authorized by you.

How often does VRO+ run privacy scans?

VRO+ automatically scans for your personal information every 24 hours, checking public websites, data broker listings, and even the dark web. If your information is found in an unauthorized location, you’ll receive an alert along with guidance on how to secure your data.

These daily scans act as a routine safety check, helping you stay informed and protected online. The scans look for exposed data including your name, email address, phone number, Social Security number, and financial account information across hundreds of known data broker sites and dark web marketplaces.

What does the $1 million identity theft protection insurance cover?

Your VRO+ membership includes up to $1 million in identity theft insurance, providing reimbursement for eligible expenses incurred while restoring your identity. This coverage helps with:

  • Legal fees — attorney costs related to identity theft recovery
  • Document replacement — fees for replacing stolen or compromised documents, including vital records, driver’s licenses, and passports
  • Lost wages — income lost while taking time off work to resolve identity theft issues
  • Fraud-related costs — unauthorized charges, fraudulent loans, and other direct financial losses
  • Communication expenses — costs for phone calls, certified mail, and notarization during the recovery process

In addition, our dedicated claims specialists guide you through every step of the recovery process, helping you resolve issues quickly and efficiently so you can regain control of your personal and financial information.

Is my personal information safe with VRO+?

Absolutely. VRO+ takes data security seriously. All personal information — including your Social Security number and financial data — is encrypted using industry-standard protocols both in transit and at rest. VRO+ identity monitoring is powered by Experian, one of the three major credit bureaus, which maintains rigorous security standards and compliance certifications.

VRO+ never sells your personal information to third parties, and your data is only used for the identity protection services you’ve enrolled in.

What should I do if I receive a fraud alert?

If you receive a fraud alert from VRO+ Identity Protection or Credit Monitoring:

  1. Review the alert details in your VRO+ dashboard to understand what was flagged
  2. Determine if the activity was authorized — sometimes legitimate actions (like applying for a new credit card) trigger alerts
  3. If the activity was not authorized, contact your bank or financial institution immediately to secure your accounts
  4. Reach out to VRO+ Priority Assistance for guidance on next steps, including filing disputes or placing fraud alerts with credit bureaus
  5. If identity theft is confirmed, VRO+ will connect you with a dedicated recovery specialist and activate your insurance coverage

Acting quickly on fraud alerts is the best way to minimize damage. VRO+ is designed to give you the early warning you need to take action before a situation escalates.
