What is included in the VRO+ Insurance feature?

Each VRO+ membership includes VRO+ Insurance, which helps protect the vital records you order through VRO. If a certified birth, death, marriage, or divorce certificate is lost, stolen, or damaged, this insurance covers the VRO processing fees to replace the document.

This means you won’t have to pay VRO’s assistance fees again to reorder a certificate that was lost in the mail, destroyed in a natural disaster, or stolen. Combined with VRO+ Identity Protection and support, it ensures your important records are secure and any issues are handled quickly and efficiently.

To file a VRO+ Insurance claim, simply contact Priority Assistance through your VRO+ dashboard, and a team member will walk you through the replacement process. In most cases, your replacement request can be initiated the same day.

How does the 20% discount for VRO work?

As a VRO+ member, you automatically receive a 20% discount on all VRO processing fees, including vital record application assistance. Please note that any fees charged directly by the state for vital records are not included in this discount. Your member rate is applied instantly at checkout and reflected in your transaction summary, with no promo codes or additional steps required.

This discount applies every time you order through VRO — whether you’re requesting a birth certificate, death certificate, marriage certificate, or divorce certificate. If you order vital records for multiple family members, the 20% discount applies to each order placed through your VRO account.

Over the course of a year, active VRO customers can save significantly more than the cost of the membership itself, making VRO+ a smart investment for anyone who regularly needs certified vital records.

Can I share my VRO+ membership with my family?

Right now, VRO+ accounts are for individual use only, to make sure your information stays private and secure. Families or multiple users will need separate memberships. We are exploring options for family or multi-user plans in the future.

Each VRO+ membership is tied to one individual’s identity information for monitoring purposes. Since identity protection features like credit monitoring and dark web scans are personalized to your Social Security number and personal data, sharing an account would compromise the accuracy and security of those services.

Does VRO+ Insurance cover state fees?

VRO+ Insurance covers VRO’s processing and assistance fees for replacing a lost, stolen, or damaged vital record. However, state-issued fees — which are set by each state’s vital records office — are not covered by VRO+ Insurance. These fees vary by state and certificate type.

For example, if your California birth certificate was lost in the mail, VRO+ Insurance would cover VRO’s assistance fee for reprocessing your order, while the state fee charged by the California Department of Public Health would still apply.

How do I file a VRO+ Insurance claim?

Filing a claim is simple:

  1. Log in to your VRO+ dashboard
  2. Navigate to Priority Assistance or use the live chat feature
  3. Let the support team know your vital record was lost, stolen, or damaged
  4. Provide basic details about your original order (order number, certificate type, and state)

Our team will verify your claim and initiate a replacement request, waiving VRO’s processing fees. Most claims are resolved within one business day, and your replacement order will follow standard processing timelines for the applicable state.
